Management Accounts Assistant

What are we  looking for?

We are recruiting two Apprentices to train as a Management Accounts Assistants, supporting the wider Finance functions within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

What does the Management Accounts  Team do? 

Management Accounts is a Board wide function responsible for the provision of financial information and advice to managers to support budgetary control and decision making.

The Department deals with a budget of £1.3 billion per annum within an overall NHS GGC budget of £3 billion per annum. There are a number of challenges regarding funding including political influence and savings requirements.

We are currently reviewing reporting requirements and post would be involved in assisting in developing new ways of reporting, for example, using dashboards (web pages), and developing more user friendly reports for non-finance users.

What qualifications do I need?

At the point of submitting your application you must have at least 3 Higher Qualifications at Grades A to C  in , two of which must be in Maths and a Business/IT/Science subjects and National 5 at grade A to C in English.

As well as meeting the academic criteria you must also demonstrate in your application that you possess good attention to detail, good IT skills and the ability to multi task.  

The most important personal qualities you will have is the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and public, a willingness to be flexible, help your colleagues and be  willing to learn new skills.

Is there an age limit?

These apprenticeship are only open to applicants aged 16-24 years (or 29 years for candidates with a disability)  in line with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Youth Employment Plan and in support of our workforce demographics and projections. 

Where will I be working? 

Situated on the outskirts of Paisley on the site of Dykebar Hospital. The Finance Department, Management Accounts is located in Ward 16.

What are the working hours and shift pattern?

You will work a standard 37.5 hour working week from Monday to Friday between  9 am to 5 pm, (30 minutes unpaid lunch).  We also operate a flexi time system.

What will I do?

This is a busy and fast paced role, particularly around month end deadlines. The majority of time is spent using PC inputting and analysing figures.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to some or all of the following:

  • Assist in the production of monthly management accounts and assist in investigation of reports.
  • Creation of financial spreadsheets in excel.
  • Input of financial data in to spreadsheets
  • Assist the management accountant in preparation and distribution of monthly management reports.
  • Respond to routine financial queries via email, telephone calls and face to face conversations.

We are a department of circa 50 staff providing financial information and analysis to sector management and teams. The department is split into various Sectors – North, South, Clyde, Regional, Diagnostics, Woman & Children, Facilities and Research & Development.

What qualifications and training will I receive?

During the MA programme you will be working towards achieving an Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Advanced Diploma in Accounting

How long will the Apprenticeship last?

This apprenticeship will last for two Years.

When will this Apprenticeship start?

We anticipate that successful candidates will commence employment (subject to the length of time it takes to complete individual pre employment checks) by June 2017.

What happens a the end of the Apprenticeship?

All candidates who successfully complete all elements of the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Modern Apprenticeship Programme are guaranteed permanent employment.

How much will I be paid and how many hours a week will I work?

NHS Greater Glasgow an Clyde is a Living Wage Employer and this Modern Apprenticeship will pay you a minimum of £16,086 per year (£8.25 per hour)

You will work a 37.5 hour week.

As an employee of Greater Glasgow and Clyde you will also be entitled to all the benefits that our staff receive including a minimum of 27 days paid annual leave, an additional 8 days paid public holidays and enrolment in the NHS Scotland Pension Scheme.
